Godox iT30 Pro Mini Flash Hands-On Review

As a photographer who often shoots outdoors, I’ve always wanted a flash that’s both lightweight and professional. Recently, Godox’s new iT30 Pro caught my eye. This tiny unit weighs just 120 grams but hides quite a few surprises.
First Impressions Unboxing:
The moment I held the iT30 Pro, I thought, “Wow, this is really light.” Its black matte finish feels premium, and mounted on my mirrorless camera, it’s barely noticeable. Besides the flash itself, the package includes a simple diffuser, which is a nice bonus at this price point.
User Experience: Friendly for Beginners and Pros:
The iT30 Pro’s interface is thoughtfully designed. The 1.4-inch color touchscreen is very responsive, and the menu logic is straightforward—easy for someone used to smartphones like me to pick up quickly. Interestingly, it also keeps a physical dial, which my DSLR-savvy mentor found surprisingly easy to adapt to.
What impressed me most was the TTL auto flash feature. Last week at a friend’s birthday party with tricky indoor lighting, I didn’t have time to fiddle with settings. The TTL mode automatically set the right flash output, saving me lots of post-processing hassle.
Performance in Real Use:
Shooting portraits under noon sunlight with 1/8000s high-speed sync produced excellent background blur.
At dusk, rear curtain sync captured clear light trails from cars along with sharp subjects.
Tried the strobe mode for water droplets—success rate was higher than expected.
Though the flash head can’t rotate, the included diffuser softens the direct light nicely. Also worth noting, the recycle speed was faster than I expected, making burst shooting smooth with minimal wait time.
Wireless Features: Better Than Expected
The wireless function was a pleasant surprise. I paired the iT30 Pro with two older Godox flashes via 2.4G wireless, easily creating a three-flash setup. The trigger remained stable up to about 15 meters, which is impressive for this price range.
Its built-in 900mAh battery performed well. After shooting a 3-hour event with over 300 flashes, it still had about 30% power left. For regular daily use, a full charge easily lasts all day.
Who Is It For?
After two weeks with it, I think the iT30 Pro is especially suited for:
Travel photographers who need something compact and easy to carry.
Portrait enthusiasts wanting professional results with TTL auto mode, even as beginners.
Event shooters who rely on fast recycle times and reliable performance.
Video bloggers who can use its continuous light mode for filming.
Some Minor Drawbacks
Of course, compromises come with such a compact design:
Maximum brightness doesn’t match high-end professional flashes
No rotating head means you sometimes need to reposition your camera for better angles
Slight warming after prolonged use
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a flash that’s both lightweight and professional enough for entry-level use, the iT30 Pro is definitely worth considering. It offers performance beyond expectations at an affordable price, perfect for beginners trying out flash photography or pros needing a reliable backup.
For me, its biggest value is that it makes me more willing to bring a flash out with me. After all, even the best gear is useless if it just sits at home unused. The iT30 Pro strikes a great balance between portability and functionality—that’s what really won me over.
